Dressing for December, Day 10

School was cancelled again today, but we need to get out briefly so we did get dressed.  The main roads are okay, but you have to get to them.  Our neighborhood is still quite difficult to maneuver and the walking to and from the car is something special.  The sun is out today, though, so things are looking up.
Our sweet babies have had so much fun together.  We have Christmas books that we pull out once a year and Aaron has been busy reading all of them to Abby.  They have also been making up games which is so sweet to watch.  Yesterday they played a game called "we have a box to pick up at the Elliotts" for about 45 minutes.  It involved taking, and picking up, a box of various items at the Elliotts' home.  I got on the phone with Julie (Elliott) and we realized that this is actually what she and I do.  Probably three times a week I have something to drop off or pick up from the Elliotts and vice versa.  Since we've been on lock down for coming up on a full week, the kids must have been missing our runs to the Elliotts!

Dressing for December, Day 9

And, it's Day Four of PJ Day.  These reindeer PJs were Aaron's and I think they are the cutest, but Abby is not a fan of one piece PJs, so they never last long.
We've had another day of book reading and the kids have been running around and making up fun games. We sure have enjoyed all of this time.  Jory left around 10 today and is working nearby. It was fun having a late morning with him.  We ate breakfast by the fire again - no paper again, but it sounds as if things are going to be getting back to normal very soon.  Bye bye Icemaggedon!

Iced In

It's been a crazy few days here being, as the news tells us, encased in ice!  The boys braved the 16 degree temperatures on Saturday to "play" in the ice.  Aaron kept thinking there was snow and he so wanted to play in it.  There was no way to make him understood that, with all that white, there was no snow.  They made the trek across our frozen solid front yard and did a little ice digging in the street.  Kids have been sledding down that hill on trash can lids.  Aaron brought me some pieces of ice to keep in the freezer.

Dressing for December, Day 8 was more PJs.

Gingerbread Men

Tomorrow will be another PJs day as school is cancelled.  The sun's supposed to come out tomorrow, so we will see what the rest of the week holds.
Aaron is so bummed about having to miss school again!  If this had happened during the week though, that would be four days in a row of cancelled school.
Everything around here is closed.  No church.  No mail delivery.  Nothing.  I am seeing on Facebook that all of my friends have cleaned their house from top to bottom, washed everything in the house and baked all their Christmas cookies.  I had no idea snow days were supposed to be productive.  We've read a thousand books and sang a hundred Christmas Carols.  It's been fun.  The kids play really well together and it's been nice seeing them have this extra time.

Dressing for December, Day Seven

Today is the second day of PJ Day.  We are definitely homebound today and both the kids chose pajamas to wear.
Yesterday afternoon we did get out and go to a movie (both the kids basically wore their PJs and Abby absolutely wore her Minnie Mouse slippers), but the roads are way worse today.  Plus, it's 16 degrees.

Today we are settled in.  We ate breakfast in front of the fire.  We did not read the paper together as it hasn't come and I don't have high hopes.  The kids love to read the paper, by the way.  Aaron always reads the Sports section and Abby picks out cars in the advertisements.

Dressing for December, Days 2 - 6

I absolutely hated sending this boy back to school Monday.  I soaked up every second I could when he was home.  the time off school means so much now. But he was so excited to go back and I watched him run in with his friends without looking back.  On Monday, Abby and I went to Mom's Group and every single person who saw us complimented this candy cane dress.  It was Katie Grace's and she wore it last year.
On Tuesday she wore this to school.  It has a hem that can be let out and I'm hoping for another year with it.
On Wednesday we had lunch with Aaron.  Aaron absolutely loves it when we have lunch with him.
On Thursday the cold front had hit so the long sleeves came out.  Abby also got her 'report card' Thursday and did great!  She meets expectations in everything (except for the sitting still through a whole story, she's 'growing' in that area).  I was really proud of her because every single one of those skills is off the charts from where she was six months ago.  But what really cracked me up was the teacher's notes.  "Abby is a very confident little girl!  She is very determined to finish any task at hand is so proud when she has finished.  I love her independence!"  What a sweet way to say Abby is a handful.
And here is the boy.  He went to the Science Fair at school this week and had a great time.  He is learning so much and having so much fun doing it.  I can't believe everything he know.  He is starting to read and write and spell.
Today was a Snow Day, so day 6 of Dressing for December was PJ Day!
 Loving these snowflake thermal PJs.
The tree behind the kids is our Meaningful Christmas Tree.  We don't have a lot of traditions but we have always done an advent calendar and we love the Meaningful Christmas Tree.  The kids can't wait every morning to do a Meaning Christmas!  Aaron has amazed us this year with how much he retains of the bible stories and how well he does answering the questions.

The only other Christmas Tradition I think we have is going to pancakes with Santa at the Grapevine Fire Department.  My FAVORITE thing.  EVER.  And I love looking at the pictures each year and seeing the kids grow and change and get more comfortable with Santa.  But, Pancakes with Santa has been cancelled this year because of the weather.  I am so bummed.

Dressing for December, Day One

It will be great fun getting 31 pictures of this cutie this month.  This was before church on Sunday.  I loved seeing all the girls in Christmas dresses.  Especially Katie Grace, I had dibs on her dress before church started!

Aaron in big church.  We asked him what the sermon was about and he got some of it.  We are getting there.

More Football!

After naps on Saturday we headed to TCU for the TCU/Baylor football game.  It was a great game.  It was the kids' first college game - actually going into the stadium and watching.

Aaron loved every minute of it.

Afterwards we went to Dutch's where we got him a hamburger which he was kind enough to take one bite of before reminding us that he doesn't like hamburgers.  Parents of the year.  He had an orange for dinner.
And Abby had her hamburger and Aaron's.
 Before the game.

 He was so into it!
I took this picture at the game and Tweeted it and it got picked up for the Jumbotron!  It said "Kids' first game!"  Love!

Thanksgiving Weekend

Here are the kids making rolls for Thanksgiving
And a pie Aaron was awfully excited about.

We spent Thanksgiving at the Golz's house.

On Friday we ran errands in the morning and then went to the Carroll game in the afternoon.  On Saturday morning we went to breakfast and then went to the mall for a bit.

We also finished the last of our Christmas preparations this weekend!

Are you ready??

For some football?  We took the kids to the Carroll High School playoff game at Cowboy Stadium on Friday.  It was Abby's first game and Aaron's first in a place so big.

Aaron had a great time.  He really loves watching football and he is learning about it.  It's fun to watch him.  He is a great cheerer!
Abby got restless.  It's great that Aaron is now at a stage that he can really enjoy these things, but it's hard dragging a two year old with us.  She had a good time, too, but Aaron could sit the whole time and focus on the game and Abby is definitely not there yet.

Aaron was showing Abby the dragons running out of the tunnel onto the field.  He loves to give her a blow by blow of everything.

It was really a fun evening and we enjoyed being with our friends.
