Really Bad First Day of School Pictures

There was zero interest in pictures this morning.  Everyone just wanted to get to school.  NOW.

It did not matter that school would not be open.

The kids were up before 6:30 ready to go to school.  Aaron was singing 'School Day!' as he was getting out of bed.

Jory took Aaron to school today and he did the drop off line.  Aaron bounded out of the car and went right in without looking back.  He had a great first day and we have heard all about it.
Abigail also did the drop off line.  I took her and she also was SO ready to go to school.
She had a great first day, but she was really tired.
All we know about her day is that Ms. Fair read Tickle Monster and put the Tickle Monster on her hand and tickled everyone in the class.
That was the greatest thing ever.
And I have absolutely not one single good picture of Aaron's first day of Kindergarten and Abigail's first day of preschool.

They were seriously all "when are we going to leave?"
Maybe I'll have better luck tomorrow.

Back to School Dinner

During the Summer, the kids get free kid meal coupons for Cotton Patch through the Library Reading Program.
In the past we have used them the night before school and I like that tradition

We had a super early dinner this year because Daddy had a church meeting but it was fun and sweet

Summer of Fun in Review

So, I decided to do something fun every day this summer - little things like PJ Day and sno cones and big things like family trips.  We didn't make every single day, and there were some misses:  We never went to Dove Pool which the kids really want to do and we actually never went to the park in our neighborhood.  And there are some things that will be better to do when they are a bit older:  Movie under the Stars at Hey Sugar, Medieval Times...but we did do a lot of fun stuff.

We swam a lot...at Dee and Papa's and Grandad and Mimi's and the Elliott's and the Cotton's and the Huffman's and the Lott's and the McAdams.  We met Daddy for meals.  We had ice cream and snocones.  We went to the library a lot.

We had visits from Uncle Doug and Grandma Beth.  We had Movie Day and PJ Day.  We planted vegetables and picked tomatoes.  We went on a cruise (which Aaron says was the best part of Summer).  We got popsicles from the Ice Cream Truck.

We made mud and went to Chuck E Cheese and played at our friends' houses.  We went to Central Market and visited Aunt Susan at the Museum of Art in Fort Worth.

We went to the movie theatre, the botanical gardens (in three cities) and a splash park in Dallas.

We went to the splash pad, the Disney store and two aquariums.  We took gymnastics and swim and we saw fireworks.

We went to Farmers Markets, the Perot Museum and birthday parties.  We built legos and saw airplanes.

We read more books than you can ever imagine.  We made up games and played them.

We had a fabulous summer.  We are looking forward to a fabulous school year and another Summer of Fun in 2015.

School Days

Most schools in our area start tomorrow.  I think they all do, but as soon as I say all...anyway, our church celebrated by having School Days today.  Everyone wore their school colors and the students went to the front of the church to be prayed over.  Aaron went up, which made me so proud (to hear about.  I didn't actually see it since I was All Service Greeter for FIT today.  It happens, we miss stuff serving sometimes).

Jory wore his new Dragon shirt.  Aaron has a green polo.  Abigail is wearing a Dragon cheerleader skirt.  I couldn't send her to church dressed as a cheerleader all the way, but she looked precious.
We will wrap up our Summer of Fun tonight with a Back to School Dinner and then we are off!

Summer of Fun Continues

We went to the Elliott's last night because I needed to take her chicken for a party she's having tonight.  My friends and I are wildly codependent.  While I was there I realized her husband was at Home Depot and I had her call him to get me something.  Seriously.   Aaron is wearing winter PJs that don't fit him.  And it was over 100 degrees with something like 90% humidity.  At some point I think he was begging for water.
Julie and I did the Ice Bucket Challenge which our kids thought was fabulous.
My kids cleaned her pool and then played on the swing set and then I made them go home for bed.  It was a beautiful afternoon of co-non-parenting.
Today we had a Family Fun Saturday at the Dallas Arboretum.  I went once on a friend's pass when Aaron was a baby, but Jory has never been because it's super expensive and kind of far.  But we found out that in August it's only a dollar because NO ONE would willingly walk around outside in Texas in August.  Jory was all over this.  We went when it opened and we had a FABULOUS time.  It was really, really neat and Aaron was so interested in everything.

We only made it through half of the main gardens which are right on White Rock Lake and the view is beautiful.

We also went to the Children's Gardens which were fabulous and had so many activities for the kids.  This is story time.
We saw about 3/4 of the kids' gardens.

Aaron was powering machinery by squirting water.

A netted trampoline type thing on a tree house

Afterwards, we drove through White Rock Lake Park and had lunch at La Madeline by SMU

Summer of Fun, Day 78

Does Today count?  We had Meet the Teacher at two different schools.  And tons of paperwork and on and on, but...yesterday we bought Daddy a game shirt at the Spirit Shop at Abigail's school.  Which was Aaron's school last year and he was All Over being there!

This is how we started the day!

Aaron's Meet the Teacher was first.  We didn't know anything about her.

But she was so nice and her class room was great.  She's been at Johnson a long time.

And then was Abigail's which was awesome because we love her teacher and it was just like coming home!

Abigail was so relaxed and Aaron had a great time roaming his old halls.

Ms. Fair!  I squealed when she called to tell me she had Abigail!

Didn't she look pretty?  Even with those backwards shoes?  We are so proud of her getting ready by herself!

It was a WHIRLWIND and then I had to do payroll super quick and then we loaded up and met John and Kim for lunch in Fort Worth which was super fun, but crazy because it was Chick Fil A, but Aaron chose it.  And then we came back for naps that do not seem to be happening and then I have to take 32 chicken legs to the Elliotts where Julie may or may not dump ice water on me and THEN...it's the last weekend before school starts!
