Interviews

Aaron has been asking me to do the Monthly Interview that I used to do with the kids each month.  When I looked back at his answers from the last time I did it I realized it had to be about a year ago.  It was actually mid-November.

Here are his answers from almost one year ago

What is your name? Aaron

How old are you? 5 1/2

What is your favorite color? Blue

Who is your best friend? My best friend is you

What is your favorite animal? A crocodile, I mean a turkey

What do you want to be when you grow-up? A policeman

Who is your favorite person? Abby

What is your favorite book? Cars

What makes you happy? When I get ice cream

What makes you sad? When I play in my bed and don’t get ice cream

What is your favorite food to eat? Oatmeal

What is your favorite song to sing? Mighty to Save

What do you like to play?  Cars

And here are his answers from last week.  I want to add that he stopped and thought about every single question before answering.

What is your name? Aaron

How old are you? 6 1/2

What is your favorite color? Turquoise (This is because of the Miami Dolphins)

Who is your best friend? Addison White (This is not true and a weird choice.  She used to go to our church and was at his school but not in the same class.  He played with her some on recess.)

What is your favorite animal? Reptiles (He's reading a book about snakes and reptiles.  He is quite into them.)

What do you want to be when you grow-up? A fish

Who is your favorite person? God

What is your favorite book? Steam Train Dream Train (Also a weird choice.  This was a book from when he was younger.)

What makes you happy? When I get to go get ice cream (Some things don't change)

What makes you sad? When I get spankings

What is your favorite food to eat? Oatmeal with peaches in it (He has never had peaches in his oatmeal in his life.  But he does love oatmeal).

What is your favorite song to sing? Si Senor (This is probably currently true.  It's a song from Ecuador, Yes Lord in English)

What do you like to play?  Games and football and baseball

This Week

This week was nuts! Y'all do not know.  The kids go half days the first week of school so that teachers can do individual assessments in the afternoons.  For the span of ever, this has meant that the Pre-school gets out at 10:30am and the elementary gets out at 11.  No eating at school the first week, just a couple hours of getting settled in and you're done.  I would go pick up Abigail at Rockenbaugh and be back before the Elementary Bus arrived with Aaron.  And Then.  Ten days before this school year began we received an email with a bunch of back to school information in it.  Tucked in there was a little tidbit that the times had changed for the first week.  Elementary would get out at 12 and Pre-school at 12:30.  Suffice it to say that a lot of people didn't see that memo.  Also, the cafeterias could not gear up a week early, so there was no lunch for Elementary.  We had to pack a snack, but it could not be anything in a package since it was being eaten in the classroom and allergies hadn't been assessed yet.  Pre-K was allowed to eat a packed, nut-free lunch.  The Elementary dismissed 15 minutes late the first two days which means I was late getting to pre-K pick up and was at the back of a 100 car line.  I do not lie.  There were kids not picked up at all (I kid you not).  There were moms at the wrong school at the wrong time.  There were bus drivers on the wrong routes and teachers confused.  Abigail's preschool pick up line had people coming from three different directions.  It was the epitome of a very bad deal.  And then we had assessments on the first two days and Aaron hadn't had lunch and was starving and we were running crazy because of the crazy dismissals and it was abysmal.  Every single one of my friends called me and said "This is a really bad week".
But on Tuesday I did make an apple cake

And on Wednesday Aaron was a little earlier (though Abigail's line was still an absolute nightmare) and we were done with assessments, but we did have dentist appointments and x-rays and they all went fabulous but cost a million dollars.  We were a bit in shock, but the kids' teeth do look great!

I don't know what this was from

This was Wednesday morning

A little pre-school tree climbing

Yes, my kids matched this week.  I am, in fact, a freak

Oh, sweet Thursday.  Aaron's bus was almost on time coming home and I was on time to Rockenbaugh and they had a teacher standing in the street directing traffic so there was only one line of cars.  And we didn't have assessments or dentists, though Sister had dance and Aaron went to gymnastics which he loved but we haven't decided if we are going to continue with it because it made the night quite a bit longer pretty late in the week.

FRIDAY!  Dragon green day.
Aaron's bus was on time!  Abigail's line was manageable!  And we had no appointments!

Waiting for the bus on her Minnie Phone

Both kids had great behavior at school all week and we survived so we headed to Baskin Robbins this afternoon.

Woo Hoo!  Week One in the books!

Day Two

Since I haven't started the Pick Up Adventure yet today I can't say how today will go.  I do have to do it without Julie's assistance today which may mean the kids are a bit hungrier (I swear she had to go to the grocery store after Aaron cleaned her out yesterday).

But they were super excited and ready for Day Two today

Whew

Seriously.  Just whew!  What a day!  I don't know how many times I said "I can't do this all week!"  It was a crazy, crazy day with the changes in pick up schedules and I spent hours in the car and I was late three times.  The elementary school kids were dismissed late, though, which set a whole bunch of bad things in motion, but hopefully tomorrow will be better.  Deep breaths.  The kids had great days, though!

On Saturday we had a super fun Celebrate Ecuador Party at our leaders' house
Sunday night we had our annual Back to School Dinner at Cotton Patch

Sis wore one of Leah's dresses to church that day and looked beautiful

And this morning.  Ready for First Grade!
 And Pre-K 4!

Summer's End

Yesterday was the first day of dance.  Abigail did great!  And I had a Moms Night Out with our church group at La Madeline
Today we had two Meet the Teachers

Both kids got the teachers they wanted!

It was a whirlwind and they both stopped by to see their teachers from last year, too

After that we had one last shindig at Chuck E Cheese
There were a lot of people with the same idea, but it was fun

Some bubble time this afternoon

 Aaron's Classroom

A little Spirit Shop purchase

This Week

On Tuesday we had some time before we needed to be at church to set up for a luncheon, so we hit the Grapevine Botanical Gardens and Heritage Park

 Playing at church

Yesterday the weather was SOOOO nice and the kids played outside for hours.

Today we went to the Spirit shop to get new Dragon Gear and we got to meet Dee and Papa for lunch at Aaron's favorite restaurant.  We had a really good time!

The kids  are napping now and then we are headed to dance.  Abigail's class starts back this week.  She's very excited.
