In Search of a Holiday

Aaron's First Year Calendar has a place for two pictures each month. Each month I've been putting a picture that was taken on the 11th (his birthday every month) and a holiday from that month. So far we've had St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day and Fourth of July. For the rest of his First Year we have Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's and Valentine's Day. But what about August? I need an August holiday.

And, P.S., isn't my husband the sweetest? Aaron and I have missed him and are anxiously awaiting his arrival tonight.

On my calendar is Civic Day on August 3-went to Google--it's Canada's version of our Labour Day. It's also called August Long Weekend. Premise is the same.

Also on Google I found August holiday links--some whacky. But one I found interesting was National Navajo Code Talkers Day on August 14th. It's in honor of the Code Talkers from the Navajo tribe--there were other tribes such as Comanch and Choctaw--I guess. Well, the Code Talkers helped us against Japan in WWII (as more folks know after Clint Eastwood's movie Code Walkers--he directed it). Our armed forces needed a code that the Japanese could not break. A "Mr. Philip Johnston" recommended to Major General Clayton P. Vogel, USMC, Commanding General, etc. Pacific Fleet that the Navajo language be used becaue it is an unwritten language and completely unintelligible to anyone except another Navajo, and is a rich fluent language for which code words could be devised for specialized military terms, such as the Navajo word for turtle representing a tank. Mr. Johnston was the son of a missionary to the Navajo tribe and was fluent in the language, having lived among the Navajos for 24 years. As history has proven, it was successful.
You can print out info for your book page. Just google it. Just a suggestion since your grandfather was a WWII vet and POW.

By the way, what is that thing Aaron is in? It looks like a colorful spider. Cute pics as always.

Love--OH mom/gma

Hey! We think we're getting the Eddie Bauer 3n1 carseat. I talked for awhile with the car seat guy at BRU and felt and inspected ALL of the carseats there and it's the one I personally like the most! What did you get?

We miss daddy when he is gone, too! Flint was gone this past weekend so we had to road trip it down to Austin and up to Dallas to see friends! It helps the time pass more quickly. You are so funny. I do not know of a holiday in September!
